The all new Pentax K-1 has just been announced. After months of teasers and glimpses of Pentax’s first full frame DSLR, it is finally here!
Headline features of the Pentax K-1, 36 MP sensor, probably the same as the Nikon 810 camera.
5 axis image stabilised sensor, so works with any lens.
100% optical viewfinder.
Weather sealed body. Two SD card slots.
Multi shot Pixel Sift resolution mode, shifts the sensor 1 pixel to record colour information at each pixel. This will improve colour and dynamic range. It does not increase image resolution.
Wifi and GPS built in, the GPS adds electro-magnetic compass and Astrotracer function. The camera can eliminate star trails using the GPS.
Articulated rear LCD screen.
Yes the camera also offers 1080p video but this is a camera designed for still photography rather than serious video work.

Along side the new camera Pentax have also unveiled two new full frame lenses the wide-angle 15-30mm F2.8 and an all-round 28-105mm F3.5-5.6. These new lenses add to the already available 24-70mm F2.8, 70-200mm F2.8 and the 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 which were launched last year.
I have used Pentax cameras for over 20 years so this new camera is on my shopping list for this year.
